MESSAGE FORUMS with cannabis, drug-war, entheogen, drug-reform, and drug-related threads. Web-based bulletin boards. Direct Links. Only your browser is needed. |
--- LAST UPDATED FEBRUARY 6, 1999. This article is: http://www.usperspectives.org/glasnost/forums.htm *Message forums with cannabis, drug-war, entheogen, drug-reform, and drug-related threads. Web-based bulletin boards. Many Direct Links.| |

The cure for democracy is MORE free speech, not less. Please
explore the web to find more forums that could accept
drug-war-related messages and discussions. This is what the web
does better than anything else. "Many-to-many." Versus
the "One-to-many" format of the mass media propaganda
machine.
My favorite board would
have a fixed-width font,
so that charts would show up correctly.
It would have threads. All message titles
would show up on the first page without having to open page after
page in order to see titles of replies, and replies to replies,
etc.. Any message title clicked would open that message and several
replies in a chain, so that one wouldn't have to
keep clicking on each individual message. One would be able to see
several messages at a time. Text would start
loading immediately upon clicking a message title,
without having to wait for graphics to load first. Text
would come onscreen immediately and continuously so
that one could start reading, or could start skimming down the
message to parts of interest. One wouldn't have to
wait for the graphics or the whole page to download
into one's computer first before any of it showed up on the
monitor. One would not have to log-in.
A blank message form would always
be open at the bottom of all pages. One would have
an option to register one's "handle,"
name, or pseudonym if one chose to. So that other's wouldn't be
able to impersonate you. There would be various options such as html,
autoconversion of URLs, formatted text, smart text,
word processor, etc.. There would be an email option
to receive notice of replies.

Most boards accept html. Some auto-convert web address URLs to
clickable links. All individual messages in all these
boards can be linked to from elsewhere. Lead your
friends directly to good threads, messages, and boards. In MS
Internet Explorer click the right button of the mouse
on the individual message, its link, or its number. Then click on
"copy shortcut" from the menu. Paste that
link anywhere you want.
____ Many boards are accessible via Lynx.
"Lynx" refers to a text-only browser
often used by free, text-only, library gateways to
the web. These text-only gateways are often very
fast for message board access, even when using 14.4 kbs modems.
This is because the graphics of ad banners, and so on, often
really slow down graphic-access to the web. Also, many libraries
have very high-speed access to the web for their internal
computers. So, they can download graphic websites almost
instantly, and then translate them to text instantly with their
Lynx browser. Any 14.4 kbs gateway is then more than adequate for
the final text transfer to one's home computer almost instantly.
Call your library to get the gateway phone number and password
(if needed). You'll thank me! You don't need any
additional software. System software, such as
HyperTerminal in Windows 95, will work just by entering the phone
number one time only. Then just click a desktop icon to connect
at anytime, usually 24 hours a day. Once online go to
this webpage and click on the message board links.
Use the back button, back command, or back arrow to
come back to this webpage. Then click on another
message board. You can create your own link lists
of webpages, message boards, etc.. Paste them into any free
webpage. Then use it as your base, too.
____ When asked for an email address to register,
many boards accept a web-based email address such
as from http://www.hotmail.com or http://www.mailcity.com . You can sign up in only a couple minutes at
either one. Mailcity allows aliases. Even if a
message board requires an email address from an ISP, they usually
don't display it unless you want it displayed. Read
the fine print, and help files, at their sites to find out. Usernames
can usually be any alias you want. Your real name
is not displayed unless you want it to be.

7. CLICKABLE LINKS HTML FORMULA:
{a href=URL}linkname{/a}
URL is the web address that starts with http. Paste URL
and linkname into the two spots. The URL can be used in both
spots, too. Substitute left and right arrowheads
(chevrons) for the left and right fancy brackets { }. Arrowhead:
>
____ Try it! The formula is the way to enter
clickable links into the CNN, Time-Pathfinder, Sympatico, talk
shows, and other message-bulletin board-forums that accept html
code. Paste these instructions there to help others
add clickable links. I used fancy brackets here because
arrowheads do strange things in some message boards. They have to
be used correctly as described. Some message boards
are easier to use since they autoconvert URLs into
clickable links.
==============================================
---
8. PASTING HTML CODE INTO SOME BOARDS.
Many message boards accept html code. This allows an easy way to
paste in stuff you like from parts of webpages. Pasting
in a color chart is fun! To get the html
code, open the webpage you like. Then (for MSIE browser) click
"source" in the view menu of MS Internet Explorer
browser. Then copy and paste whatever html code you want into the
message board. Message boards allow varying lengths of material
to be posted into a message. That is why I eliminated many row
lines in the tables. This allows much more to be pasted in
messages, because row lines require much html code.
