3. HARM REDUCTION POLICIES WORLDWIDE:

"Harm reduction" is a sane Drug War alternative. Switzerland, Holland, Germany, and other nations are having success with separating drugs according to the harm they can cause, and trying to lower that harm. Nov. 4, 1995 Washington Post: "The Dutch government insists this policy of tolerating soft drugs has protected an entire generation of young people from being drawn into the hazardous milieu of cocaine and heroin. Officials say this success is reflected in the sharp decline of young people using hard drugs; only 2 percent of Dutch addicts are under 22 years of age, compared with 14 percent a decade ago. The country's entire addict population has dropped by a third -- to 25,000 heavy users of cocaine and heroin, or 1.6 per 1,000 inhabitants. Other European countries have twice that level, and in the United States it is six times greater."

5. GLOBAL COALITION for ALTERNATIVES to the DRUG WAR.

Go to the websites for Global Days and the UN Drug Summit. See press articles, web videos, web audios, Clinton speech satire, full-page newpaper ads, etc.. One Global Days website has links for many of the over 50 cities that had rallies June 5- 10, 1998 worldwide. The links there explain the many creative activities that have gone on, and continue to go on, in each city. The first (MAP) website has cannabis and drug policy-related press articles from around the world. Go there and use their search engine to look up GE (code used for Global Days press articles) in a title search. Check both current news and older news. In a few seconds a list of a couple hundred, indexed, full-text, press articles will be pulled up about the UN Drug Summit, Global Days, and the Global Coalition.

6. THE FLIP SIDE. THE U.S. REPUBLICAN ( MOSTLY ) DRUG WAR.

Also see these U.S. Republican Drug War Links.
Go to the " related links " section almost at the end of this webpage- for a list of Republican Drug War web pages - some of which are more comprehensive than this GOP webpage section below. Click HERE to get to related "related links" section instantly.

Contrast the hopeful world alternatives in the sections above with the U.S. Drug War below. The U.S. Drug War is pushed hardest by the Republican Party, who are, by far, the most frequent sponsors and cosponsors of U.S. Drug War legislation. STOP THE WAR!!!

____ The REPUBLICANS -- Orrin Hatch, Rocky McCollum (anti-medical marijuana House Resolution 372 sponsor), Gordon Smith (anti-medical marijuana Senate Resolution 86 sponsor), Steve Forbes (against DC medical-marijuana initiative), William Bennett (against Colorado medical-marijuana intitiative, and first Drug Czar), Dan Lungren (needs no introduction), Pete Wilson (vetoed several California medical marijuana bills), Gerald Solomon, Phil Gramm, Bob Barr (HR 372 cosponsor and longtime 100 to 1 crack/powder sentencing ratio supporter), Lauch Faircloth, Jesse Helms, Rob Portman (HR 372 cosponsor), Steve Chabot (HR 372 cosponsor), Louis Blessing (Ohio senate sponsor of bill that killed medical marijuana defense in Ohio), and many more -- led by their fearless leader Newt Gingrich, are redeclaring total Drug War. They are fearlessly going after the forces of evil, attacking sick and dying medical marijuana users, sick and dying dirty needle users, etc.. What courage!

During Nazi rule those thought to be a threat to the
Fatherland were taken prisoner and placed in con-
centration camps. These prisoners were from many
different social and cultural backgrounds. To
distinguish between the prisoners, the Nazis
used a system of color coded cloth badges.
Jews were given yellow stars; half-Jews
were given yellow triangles; feminists
were given black triangles; Gypsies
were given brown; and gay men,
pink. The green triangle was
given to 'common criminals' or
those who had been convicted
of minor crimes, including
drug law violators. At
the time of Nazi rule,
a very stringent set
of anti-drug laws
was in effect --
laws that were
very similar
to those
used now
in the
